The Value of Planning Ahead and Making Informed Decisions About Your Finances

Informed Decisions, Finances

Interview with Paddy Delaney from Informed Decisions.

What is your background briefly?

I learned the value of money from a young age; working in shops, bars, restaurants, building sites from 14 years of age during school holidays. I always enjoyed numbers and working with people. After a college degree and a few years in retail management, I fell into Financial Services in 2004. Developed my skills over 14 years in various financial roles.

The more I saw the more I found the end client often sits way-down the food-chain for a lot of advice firms. I felt compelled to establish a new way of doing financial advice. So in 2018 I established a boutique no-nonsense firm, Informed Decisions, in order to deliver advice the way I believe it should be done.

Planning Ahead, Making Informed Decisions About Finances

Does it seem like a logical background to what you do now?

It has been a somewhat meandering path but I feel I found my ‘purpose’ now yes! For many years I felt a desire to pursue my own path, and to work on my own terms, but I was not clear on what I wanted that path to be. Once I got that clarity it helped shape what I do now, utilising the knowledge and skills learned over the past 20 years in various finance roles.

As any business-owner will affirm, it took a lot of hard work, planning, learning and research to build Informed Decisions. I am now in the position where my services are in demand, I get to work with people I enjoy, and get to use skills and knowledge to help them capitalise on their business success. And I get paid to do it – what’s not to love.

1 min pitch for what you are doing now?

I work with business owners who are serious about planning for retirement. We develop a strategy to build their retirement pots, and structure their business to support that. As one of Ireland’s only truly Independent Financial Planners I love what I do, and the select number of clients we work with. In addition, I have been creating and producing Ireland’s multiple award-winning Finance Blog & Podcast every week for the past 3 years.

Why do you think it is such a powerful idea?

The world is changing, no longer will business owners take sales-people masquerading as financial advisors at face value. There is a huge demand for truly independent fee-based advice and working in partnership with an advisor – that’s the gap we fill at Informed Decision. People thrive unbiased information and guidance, and between the Blog, Podcast and Planning we deliver that.

Anything else you’d like to add / we should have asked?

Through Informed Decisions, we are on a mission to inch the world forward – trying to play our part in improving outcomes for people across the country – sharing in our successes – donating to charities – and having a ball in the process. So grateful to be able to do so.
