By Simon Cocking, review of Drones : the brilliant, the bad and the beautiful, By Professor Andy Miah, published by Emerald see more on the author’s website here.
Against the backdrop of an increasingly dynamic world, driven by rapid digital innovation and technological advances, drones are becoming prolific within society. In this book, Andy Miah delivers a comprehensive analysis of the wide-reaching applications of drones, as well as a critical interrogation of the social, cultural and moral issues that they provoke. Delving into philosophical discussions about the implications of drone technology, this book shines a light on their real-world applications, the challenges they pose, and what they reveal about the human condition, when faced with a future of autonomous, intelligent robots.
Drones : the brilliant, the bad and the beautiful, reviewed
This book comes out at a good time, with drones having developed quickly, and begun to do a range of interesting, positive, creative and also dangerous, evil and bad things too. Naturally then Miah’s book makes for an interesting and thought provoking read as he attempts to navigate a path through these different possibilities.
It is a short book coming in at 150 pages, but we enjoyed his approach in tackling the various aspects of the drone world, and how it may impact on us. Miah covers the more predictable areas, but also moves into more philosophical considerations and analysis of what a drone influenced future might look like. It is well worth reading however in order to get a sense of what is possible, what could be happening, and what issues we need to be talking about, and the questions we need to be aware of.
What a fun conversation about the future and how we keep in sight those things that enrich our lives, while continuing to explore, invent, and discover. Thanks @wpjoosten https://t.co/l3DJxmdAao
