Liberland Appoints New Minister of Finance

Liberland, the micronation formed in April 2015, has announced the appointment of Ali Kassab as incoming Minister of Finance. The event took place in Liberland representative office in Prague during the Christmas reception.
Ali will take over from Jan Purkrabek, who has held this position since the foundation of the State. Jan will now head up the Liberland Chamber of Commerce Project.
Ali was awarded the CEO of the year in 2018 by Smart SMB in Dubai. He is a self-made businessman, serial entrepreneur, secretary general of the newly launched Global Blockchain Organisation and chairman of Centurion & Co.
Ali has 20+ years of experience across multinational cloud software, digital payment and Blockchain-based companies in the region. His expertise lies in building and nurturing entrepreneurship ecosystems in the MENA region from ground zero to multi-million businesses.
Speaking at his appointment, President Vit Jedlicka said: “We are delighted to welcome the highly accomplished global tech entrepreneur Ali Kassab to the position of Minister of Finance. As we approach our fifth anniversary, it is important that we build Liberland with seasoned, capable statespeople.”
President Vit also paid thanks to the retiring Minister of Finance, Jan Purkrabek, commending him for his contribution since the founding of the country. President Vit also welcomed Jan’s continued involvement working with the Liberland Chamber of Commerce.
Ali Kassab, incoming Minister of Finance expressed his delight at being an active, founding member of Liberland. “It is very exciting to be part of a new development to build transparent and well governed economies, delivering power to the people and benefits to citizens underpinned by the value of blockchain.
“Being part of Liberland is an opportunity to change the way governments have worked for centuries, to redraw how the political classes rule and to give power back to the people. I want to maximise the benefits for citizens using our digital experience to provide a secure and transparent platform.”
“In 2020, Liberland will focus on implementing its constitution and sovereignty mechanism on blockchain and build the whole digital and ecosystem for citizens, corporates, organizations along with the implementation of an unprecedented mechanism of voting, taxation system, governance and relation with our congress.”
Ali is also secretary general of the Global Blockchain Organisation and sees strong synergies between the two.
“At GBO we want to create a framework for blockchain to be the backbone for the new alternative development model. I see Liberland as a perfect use case to reflect both sets of values.”
“Finally for an idea to work it needs execution. For execution it needs finance. I believe we will be able to prepare a strong budget for Liberland going forward based on the team in place, the power of the passions binding the new citizens, and the global desire for our country to succeed.”
