How to Compress/Extract Files on iOS 13 or iPadOS:
iOS 13 and iPadOS come with native support for compressing and extracting ZIP and RAR files conveniently without using any other external software. To do so head over to the native Files app on your iPhone or iPad and find the file you want the actions to be performed on. Now tap and hold the file until a little drop-down menu occurs, from the menu find the compress/extract button based on the action you want to perform and click continue. Select the location you want the file to be saved on and you are ready to go.
How to Compress/Extract Files on iOS 12:
Step 1: Open up the Shortcuts application and click on the ‘+’ button on the top right corner. Once done, click on the search menu and search for “ZIP,” and on the results page, tap on the “Make Archive” option to compress files, or you can choose “Extract Archive” to extract files another shortcut.
Step 2: Moving on, choose the edit icon on the right corner and toggle the option for “Show in Share Sheet” on. Also, you can give a name to this shortcut as well.
Step 3: In the options mentioned below, change the Format to “Ask When to Run,” thereby giving you an option to have it in your preferred format. Once done, click on the Done option on the right corner to save your shortcut.
Step 4: Whenever you want to extract or compress a file, just share it with the Shortcuts and choose the name you have assigned to it. You will be given an option with a Save pop-up, here you can change the format and tap done to compress the file. The compressed file could be found in the Files App.
